It is the middle of the 28th century. Earth’s resources have long been depleted by the insatiable needs of the race of life forms she supports. As the people wonder where they will get the materials needed to sustain the way of life that had been so commonplace and normal for so long, the mining consortiums began to take control of the situation. For the last few centuries, the Mining Consortium handled all the scavenging and gathering and refining needs of the Earth and the some 25 billion people crawling across her surface. 

The Mining Consortium was formed as the 3 largest Mining Corporations banded together and combined their resources to begin off world exploration for essential and luxury class minerals, gasses, and other resources such as water. For the next 200 years the success of the Mining Consortium was phenomenal, hailed as the example of human ingenuity in the face of adversity and overwhelming odds. As the Mining Consortium built bigger and faster starships and space stations, the Terran Federation Military began taking notes and developing starships of their own.

Time passed and the human presence in outer space only expanded, as we found more sources of the resources we needed on Earth, the more we needed. Eventually we encountered our first signs of life on another world. They were lesser life forms, non-sentient, but it was deemed prudent by the Military to get involved and provide mainline security for the Mining Consortium by means of eradicating any trace of life on the planet’s surface. As the 30th century rolled around the Military decided that before any mining operation could begin, they would have to detail a security sweep to ensure the safety of the resource gathering operations. This standard procedure would prove for little more than simply wiping out non sentient races for the next 300 years…

In the early years of the 33rd century, the Terran Federal Navy 8th Battle Group arrived in orbit of Planet 321 Theta. Its arrival preceded the 3 large, heavy duty mining ships that would take up orbit around the nearest moon until the Navy could determine the safety of the planet below.

321 Theta, or Skanadir as it was known to its inhabitants, was home to a race of around 6 billion pre-space travel life forms. Technologically they were as developed as humankind itself was in the 21st century. As the first of the Naval scans swept the surface of the planet, the Skanadirians were already attempting to make contact with the fleet of imposing war ships in orbit.

First Contact was established at 1800 hours fleet time, February 24th 3213. The message sent by the Terran Federal Navy: “We come in peace…”
